Professor Matthew Olugbenga Oyeyemi was born on 3rd of April, 1961 at Obbo-Aiyegunle in Ekiti local government area of Kwara State. He attended Local Authority (LA) Primary school, Ikole Ekiti and he is one of the Pioneering students of Ataoja High School, Osogbo in Osun state between 1978 and 1983. He was the Senior Prefect of the same school from 1978 to 1983. He also attended Kwara State College of Technology now Kwara State Polytechnic between 1983-1984, where he obtained A level certificate. After this, he proceeded to the University of Ibadan in 1985 and obtained the Doctor of Veterinary medicine (DVM) in 1990. Prof. Oyeyemi had his one year compulsory National Youth Service Corp in Benin City, Bendel State (now Edo state) in 1990-1991. He is a holder of Masters in Veterinary Public Health (MVPH) degree which he obtained in 1992. He also obtained Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Theriogenology from University of Ibadan in the year 2002. Oyeyemi was employed as Lecturer II in the Department of Veterinary Surgery and Reproduction in 1993 and rose to the rank of Senior Lecturer in 1999, Reader in 2003 and Professor in 2008.

Professor Oyeyemi has taught Veterinary Reproduction (Theriogenology) to undergraduate and postgraduate students and has supervised and examined many Masters and Doctoral students at the University of Ibadan and other universities within and outside Nigeria. He has concentrated his research activities on Theriogenology-branch of Veterinary Medicine which deals with reproduction, including the physiology and pathology of male and female reproductive systems and the clinical practice of Veterinary Obstetrics, Gynaecology, and Semenology . He was awarded the membership and fellowship diplomas of the College of Veterinary Surgeons Nigeria in 2004 and 2012 respectively. He is a Consultant Theriogenologist to the Veterinary Teaching Hospital, University of Ibadan, Nigeria.

Oyeyemi was an Associate Lecturer, Department of Veterinary Public Health and Theriogenology, Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta. He served as External Examiner in Theriogenology in University of Maiduguri and Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta. He is also a member of Veterinary Council of Nigeria (VCN), Committee of Deans of the Faculties/Colleges of Veterinary Medicine in Nigeria, Nigeria Livestock Development Committee (NLDC) and current Chairman Registration and Examination Committee of the Veterinary Council of Nigeria. Professor Oyeyemi was awarded the University of Ibadan Senate Research Grant for the years 1996, 2006 and 2010.

Professor Oyeyemi has served the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine and the University in various Administrative capacities: Departmental Representative in Eruwa Veterinary Field Station (1993-1995), member Faculty Sanitation Committee (1993-1995), member University of Ibadan Telephone Committee (1996-2000), Faculty representative in Faculty Board of Agriculture and Forestry (1995-1997), Assistant Warden, Nnamdi Azikiwe Hall, University of Ibadan (199-2003), Sub-Dean (Clinics, 2002-2003), Member Faculty field trip Committee (2002-2003), member Faculty ceremonial committee (2000-2003), Coordinator of Veterinary Teaching Hospital (VTH) University of Ibadan (2002-2006), and Departmental Postgraduate and Seminar Coordinator (2004-2011). Professor Oyeyemi was the acting Head of Department Veterinary Surgery and Reproduction (2007-2009), Faculty Representative on Senate Curriculum Committee (2007-2011), member of Senate of University of Ibadan from 2006 till date. He was the Head of Department of Veterinary Surgery and Reproduction (2011-2013) and elected Dean, faculty of Veterinary Medicine for two years 2013-2015 and was awarded the prestigious Fellowship of the College Veterinary Surgeons Nigeria (FCVSN, 2013). He was a recipient of University of Ibadan Reward for Excellence for the year 2011(Teaching Category)

He has to his credit over 120 publications in referred conference proceedings and journals.

Professor Oyeyemi is married with children.
